What Is PFAS?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of over 12,000 synthetic chemicals used in non-stick cookware, firefighting foam, food packaging, and stain-resistant fabrics since the 1940s. They are called "forever chemicals" because the carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest in chemistry — they do not break down in the environment or in the human body. They accumulate in blood, organs, and tissue over decades of low-level exposure.
