6 Signs Your Water Filter Needs Service
Most homeowners wait too long. Here's what to watch for — and why it matters.
Cloudy or discolored water
Sediment filters and carbon blocks have a finite capacity. When they're saturated, particles pass through and you'll notice it visually.
Bad taste or odor returns
Chlorine taste, sulfur smell, or a musty odor coming back means your carbon media is exhausted and no longer adsorbing contaminants.
Low water pressure
A clogged sediment pre-filter is the most common cause of reduced flow throughout the house. Easy fix — but only if caught in time.
It's been over 12 months
Most whole house filter cartridges should be replaced every 6–12 months regardless of appearance. Bacteria can grow in expired media.
Scale buildup is back
If you're seeing white deposits on faucets and appliances again, your softener resin may need regeneration service or replacement.
System error light or alarm
Most modern systems have indicator lights or digital alerts. Don't ignore them — they're telling you something needs attention now.
